Transmission problems can be destructive to your vehicle and often times are hard to detect.  The most noticeable symptoms often leave more questions than answers without having a comprehensive diagnostic check-up.  By pinpointing what’s wrong early on, your vehicle and your wallet will be happier because of it.

How Can You Tell?

Anything from a leak to a strange noise could be indicative of a problem with your transmission.  To narrow things down, we have a recommended checklist of symptoms that are most commonly associated with transmission troubles.

Can you answer “yes” to any of these questions?

• Do you have trouble going forward or backwards while the gear shift is in Drive?  If so, is the vehicle stalling?

• When you press on the gas pedal, is the car not accelerating at the same rate or power as normally?  Is the car slipping in gear when you attempt to accelerate or slow down?

• Have you noticed any strange noises, leaks or smells coming from your engine when you turn on the ignition? Cranks or creaky sounds? Burnt or rancid smells?  Noticeable drips or leaks coming from the engine?

• Is the gear shift stuck or hard to move between gears while driving? 

• Is the engine light on?  If so, does it say something like “Check Engine” or Service Engine Soon”?  Any other unusual lights that you notice may be on?
